“Can You Keep a Secret?” starts with a word vomit meet-cute that’s a stretch, even by the standards of romantic comedies that force themselves into action. Emma ( Alexandra Daddario ) thinks she is going to die during a bit of plane turbulence, and nervously spews her secrets to a handsome strange man ( Tyler Hoechlin ) sitting next to her. The secrets aren’t very juicy, so much as set up what in her life needs addressing: the fake friendships she has with her snooty co-workers, the sexual inefficacy of her jazz-loving boyfriend. Amongst her nervous spewing, she even proclaims, "I’ve never been in love!" while the man listens with a small smile creeping on his face. Emma tries to stop herself at one point, but he encourages her to keep going. It’s the start of a connection that isn’t sweet or clever enough to look past the predatory nature.

The next day, Emma gets to her hip New York City office and realizes that the owner of her employing company, Jack Harper, is none other than the man she rambled to. Horrified, Emma fumbles around trying to play it cool, while the other members of the office try to impress him, creating awkward nervous slapstick by Daddario and weak jokes from the supporting cast—even Laverne Cox is wasted as the office manager, trying to run a tight ship and prop herself up in the process. Director Elise Duran (working from a script by Peter Hutchings , an adaptation of Sophie Kinsella's novel) flashes back to other stuff she innocently revealed about her work ethic—like how her friend Casey ( Robert King ) asks her to “go over some numbers,” AKA sneak out for coffee—and Emma is embarrassed, vulnerable. In a different scenario, her boss could fire her if she got caught doing what she's already confessed to doing.

But Jack has something else in mind for this employee, concealed under the way he encourages her to check those numbers with Casey, or doesn’t tell one of Emma’s co-workers that she didn’t actually read as part of the book club. “Can You Keep a Secret?” tries to leverage this boss-worker dynamic by giving Jack his own secret—he doesn’t know want people to know that he was flying back from Chicago when she first met him—and Emma readily proclaims that she won’t tell anyone. His secret, later revealed, also isn’t scandalous, even if the script tries to nudge you on your worst inclinations on why a man would hide a plane trip, and sometimes steal away to answer his phone.

Hanging this premise on the currency of secrets proves far too simple, even for the lovingly unabashed Merry-Go-Round thrills of a rom-com. That’s especially the case when the movie gets to its main point, when Emma finally breaks it off with her dorky boyfriend, and Jack swoops in in a way that isn’t romantic so much as predatory, given that even the most necessary of break ups can leave someone in a vulnerable state. But once the two start dating—with Emma getting encouragement from her roommate Lissy ( Sunita Mani ), and deflecting stuff from her far more cynical roommate Gemma ( Kimiko Glenn )—we can tell that it’s a mismatch. She’s full of life and genuine, and shares a backstory of fighting for self-love that is totally endearing, vivid. But Jack, on the other hand, is a milquetoast Christian Grey with a masculine forcefulness that’s merely to be presumed by his rugged face and rock-hard abs. Jack doesn’t share much about who he is as Emma gets closer to him, and his intentions are too vague. The secrecy doesn’t make him mysterious, so much as a three scoops of vanilla with a red flag on top.

In one moment of bliss, before everyone's secrets come out in a way that’s endemically dull, the movie achieves a few pangs of romance:   When it’s about that feeling of falling in love, it feels true—of stealing a look at your partner while sitting together quietly on the couch, or baring your soul to someone special at some unknown hour of the night, in bed. These glimpses pass in a montage, but there’s enough sweetness to show you what could have been.

Pushing itself along as a comedy, Daddario doesn’t nearly get the material that can match her abundant energy and natural embrace of goofiness, which she displays from the opening scene, trying to make this line sound like it's not a genre staple: “I have to land this account to get this promotion!” But she is the one interesting character in the whole bunch. Everyone else is either not realistic or silly enough, and we’re stuck with a lot of stale jokes about effeminate men, wacky co-workers, and later a sequence about amateur ballet dancers.

“Can You Keep a Secret?” doesn’t elicit warm laughs so much as heavy sighs, even though the film has some zippiness—there’s a slapstick spirit to the movie that doesn’t shine because the jokes are plain, the couple is tough to root for, and the general tension behind this weird situation is on the lazier side of rom-com premises. Romance is hard, and comedy even more so, but “Can You Keep a Secret?” too openly tries to skip through both.

Based on the novel by Sophie Kinsella, Can You Keep a Secret? stars Alexandra Daddario as Emma Corrigan, a marketing representative who, after a disastrous business meeting in Chicago, drowns her sorrows in way too much champagne on the flight back to New York and reacts to some major turbulence by baring her soul in embarrassing detail to her seatmate (Tyler Hoechin). Upon returning to the office, she quickly discovers that her former seatmate is actually Jack Harper, the CEO of her company, a fact which horrifies her as much as it bemuses him.

CAN YOU KEEP A SECRET : STREAM IT OR SKIP IT?

The Gist : Emma is a hard-working employee who struggles to be noticed amongst her louder and/or more eccentric coworkers, but she’s arguably struggling even more in her personal life, sharing an apartment with her best friend, Lissy (Sunita Mani), and the self-obsessed Gemma (Kimiko Glenn) while just barely tolerating her boyfriend, Connor (David Ebert), who loves jazz and apparently isn’t a fan of wearing pants at home. As such, it’s easy to imagine a scenario where she falls for Jack and – given how well he accepts all of the things she revealed to him on the flight – it’s clear that it won’t be hard for him to fall for her.

Ah, but how easy will it be for him to open up to her about everything in his life? Aye, there’s the rub…and that’s not to speak of how difficult it’s going to be for a low-level marketing rep to make an impression in the workplace without everyone immediately jumping to the conclusion that her success is due to the fact that she’s slipped into a relationship with the CEO. (Not that we’re in any way suggestion that this is the case, mind you. We just know how these sorts of movies tend to go.) Thankfully, she has a supportive boss in Cybill (Laverne Cox), but that’s only going to get her so far if she can’t stand up for herself and prove her worth.

What Movies Will It Remind You Of? : Bridget Jones’s Diary is the first one that leaps to mind, but there are a plethora of workplace rom-coms that leap to mind, if only in general terms, like – just to name a few at random – Working Girl or Two Weeks Notice , except not as good.

Performance Worth Watching : This is 100% Hoechlin’s movie. He’s charming from the get-go, you know without question that he’s going to come through in the end, and… Well, let’s just say there’s a reason he’s Superman.

Memorable Dialogue : “No one has any goddamned idea what love is on this entire planet,” says Emma, which is 100% laughable, since there’s no question from the moment that she and Jack meet on the plane that they’re going to end up madly in love by the time the credits roll.

Sex and Skin : For better or worse, the only outright nudity in the film belongs to Connor, who proudly strolls around his apartment with his decidedly hairy ass hanging out.

Our Take : As wonderful as Hoechlin may be throughout the film, Daddario is handed a tremendous number of embarrassing scenes which range in effect from “ouch, that’s not good” to “I may need to leave the room for a moment.” They do have a certain amount of chemistry, but it’s a far greater struggle to see what he sees in her than what she sees in him.

In addition, the inevitable “trouble in paradise” scene that ostensibly causes Emma’s happily-ever-after ending with Jack to be put into question is a complete tonal misfire, with Emma treating a TV interview done by Jack to be a complete betrayal even as most viewers will look at Jack’s face and realize that, if anything, it’s a testament to how much he cares for Emma.

Our Call : It’s certainly not the best rom-com we’ve seen recently, and it’s definitely frustrating at times, but just for Hoechlin’s performance alone, we still say STREAM IT.

Film Review: ‘Can You Keep a Secret?’

This breezy romantic comedy about a couple’s overt and covert behavior is buoyed by two great leads deserving of stronger material.

By Courtney Howard

Can You Keep a Secret

Director Elise Duran ’s “Can You Keep A Secret?” makes it clear from the very first moments the animated opening credits play over the Go-Go’s “Our Lips Are Sealed” that it’s going to be a sweet, if not satisfactory time spent in the golden-hour glow of this romantic comedy’s world. Based on Sophie Kinsella’s book, her first standalone novel after the success of her “Confessions of a Shopaholic” series, its candy-floss-lite sentiments and strong lead performances carry the picture beyond the genre’s limitations. That said, it lacks a sense of uniqueness to set it apart from other female-centric book-to-screen adaptations.

Emma Corrigan ( Alexandra Daddario ) isn’t living her best life. Not only is she stuck in a dead-end job as a marketing manager at a financially flailing organic edibles company, she feels trapped in a lackluster romance with doting but dorky boyfriend Connor (David Ebert). She’s also suffering from a case of low self-esteem. She’s in desperate need of a literal life shake-up, which arrives courtesy of some turbulence on a flight back to New York after a disastrous business trip to Chicago. Fearing a plane crash is imminent, Emma confesses all her anxieties and deepest, darkest secrets to the hunky startled stranger ( Tyler Hoechlin ) sitting next to her. However, by the time she’s finished spilling her guts, the plane has landed safely and all she’s left to suffer is a temporary case of discomfort as the two part ways. Or so she thinks.

Unbeknownst to either of them, their paths will cross again. That stranger on the plane was her company’s CEO, Jack Harper, in town to relaunch its thriving business model. Within minutes of his introduction to the office, he begins playfully ribbing Emma about her embarrassing secrets involving the white lies she tells her colleagues and the petty passive-aggressive acts toward her work nemesis. His mere presence subconsciously encourages her to begin taking the initiative with both her home and work life, coming up with innovative marketing strategies and breaking up with Connor. Of course, the spark of romance soon ignites between the two. But as Emma discloses more vulnerabilities, Jack continues to hold back on sharing his own neuroses.

Duran peppers the picture with a few kooky supporting characters, some more captivating than others. Emma’s work confidant Casey (Robert King) doesn’t get much to do, beyond awkwardly cringing while trapped in an elevator during a raunchy couple’s discussion. This scene would’ve been considerably more uproarious had he been a stranger subjected to these unwanted intimate details. Emma’s roommate, lawyer Lissy (Sunita Mani), is hiding a desire that Emma mistakes for a hot office romance. Her reveal isn’t terribly surprising, nor particularly funny, but it does give her agency, rather than Lissy relying on fulfillment from a man. Their other roommate, Gemma (Kimiko Glenn), is the far more interesting of the trio as her exhibitionist party girl is gifted most of the film’s funny lines. Her excuses to leave a scene are as hilarious and memorable as her outlandish wardrobe choices. Glenn embraces Gemma’s wacky wild side with off-the-wall verve and vigor.

Daddario, who’s been long overdue for strong material in this particular genre, is revelatory as a quirky comedic lead. She’s universally likeable as the thrift store romantic that her wardrobe of high-waisted jeans, flowery dresses and daisy hairclip represents. The way she emphatically punches the timing on her “what” line when learning that she’s overshared, along with her physicality when she’s playing up Emma’s cute, clumsy undertones, gives her performance an undeniable energy akin to a Nancy Meyers heroine. Hoechlin, despite Jack’s cypher-like qualities, oozes suave charm and sexy wit all while nodding to his cautious character’s softer side. His leading man appeal is found in the nuances and quiet resignation of the furtive Jack.

Duran and screenwriter Peter Hutchings, working from Kinsella’s source material, express quite a few heartfelt sentiments about women finding their voice without the aid of a man bestowing that sense of confidence. Emma doesn’t tap into her true potential until Jack mistakenly betrays her trust in a romantic gesture gone awry and she purges him — albeit temporarily — from her life. It’s a delightful surprise that Emma’s tightly wound supervisor Cybill (Laverne Cox) isn’t a stereotypical horrible boss, but one who bestows her employees with insightful encouragement when deserved.

Yet the material is still spotty at best. Emma’s private shames aren’t that disgraceful, nor do they discredit her enough to leave her at rock bottom. People reveal greater intimate details on social media these days than the ones she’s keeping tucked away. Its commentary on healthy relationships being a two-way street is admirable and fine for a light beach read, but it’s puddle-deep. Though enlightened audiences will hone in on it early, that couple’s conflict isn’t given air until late in the film, leaving most people far ahead of the plot. Jack’s secret eccentricities are only revealed to Emma after she’s been forced to prove her trustworthiness to him, which seems counter-intuitive to the narrative’s foundational female empowerment message.

Overall, “Can You Keep A Secret?” forges its identity as a serviceable romp for those who enjoy films based on postfeminist fiction. Though it lacks the gutting poignancy of “In Her Shoes,” it does thoughtfully mimeograph the heroine’s gumption in “The Devil Wears Prada” and the lighthearted tone of “Confessions of a Shopaholic,” while blessedly avoiding the toxic sad-sack aspects of “Something Borrowed.” It may not be perfect, but at least it makes the chasm of quality between films of its ilk seem a little less gaping.

Can you keep a secret review: this romcom has charm to spare, can you keep a secret is a sweet and funny romantic comedy with an incredibly charming leading duo in tyler hoechlin and alexandra daddario..

Romantic comedies have made a resurgence in recent years, thanks in part to streaming services like Netflix giving a platform to mid-range movies in a genre that Hollywood studios had seemed to give up on - though studios are returning to romcoms as well. Still, one realm where romantic comedies flourished prior to their mainstream return was within independent film. A new indie romantic comedy is Can You You Keep A Secret? based on the immensely popular and NYT bestselling novel of the same name by Sophie Kinsella. It's clear from this movie that a good romantic comedy doesn't need big studio backing when it has a compelling story, a solid director and a pair of charismatic leads. Can You Keep A Secret? is a sweet and funny romantic comedy with an incredibly charming leading duo in Tyler Hoechlin and Alexandra Daddario.

Can You Keep A Secret? follows young marketing assistant Emma Corrigan (Daddario), who sits next to a stranger during a turbulent flight and winds up spilling all of her secrets - the little facts about herself and her life that she believes will drive everyone away. It turns out the man is Jack Harper (Hoechlin), the CEO of the company where she works, which Emma learns when he shows up at her office. With help from her best friend Lissy (Sunita Mani) and the questionable advice of her roommate Gemma (Kimiko Glenn), Emma attempts to navigate the difficult situation at work, made worse by her annoying coworkers and her slightly terrifying boss Cybill (Laverne Cox). Plus, there's the fact that Jack knows Emma isn't in love with her boyfriend Connor (David Ebert) and she's waiting for an earth-shattering romance - and she just might get her chance for such a romance with Jack.

Can You Keep A Secret? is directed by Elise Duran ( DeSean Jackson: Home Team ) from a script by Peter Hutchings ( The Last Keepers ). Having worked largely in documentaries and unscripted television, Can You Keep A Secret? is Duran's first feature-length fiction film, but she brings an incredible amount of authenticity to the movie. Duran is able to capture the awkwardness of Emma, especially in her early interactions with Jack, and deftly transitions that awkwardness into an intimacy between the characters as their relationship grows. And with the smaller budget of an indie film, Duran puts New York City to work, using its romanticized city skyline to give certain scenes a grander weight more in line with big studio romcoms. Meanwhile Hutchings proves adept at bringing Kinsella's work to the screen, keeping much of what made the book excellent and condensing it down so the story fits within a 90-minute movie. Hutchings' script also focuses the story a bit more and makes its themes of being true to oneself even more straightforward.

However, as is the case with any romantic comedy, much of the film's success is down to its leading duo; in Can You Keep A Secret? that duo is Daddario and Hoechlin. Though Daddario has somewhat more experience with romcoms than Hoechlin - having starred in The Layover and Netflix's When We First Met - both are equally suited to the genre, their romance sizzling off the screen with equal amounts of charm and vulnerability. In Can You Keep A Secret? Daddario has more to work with by virtue of her character being the one with her heart on her sleeve, while Hoechlin's Jack is a more reserved person. Still, he brings a likable personality to the role that shines through. And it helps that Daddario and Hoechlin work well with each other to bring this love story to life. Can You Keep A Secret? also boasts a solid supporting cast, especially Cox, Mani, Glenn, and Ebert as their respective characters, bringing humor and depth to the film. Still, much of the movie rests on the shoulders of Daddario and Hoechlin, and they carry that weight well together.

Can You Keep A Secret? is a fairly standard, and ultimately solid romantic comedy. Though many film adaptations of books can struggle with pacing or overstuffing the runtime with aspects from the source material, Hutchings' script stays true to Kinsella's story while updating it for a modern audience and making some changes to keep it fresh (though moving the setting from London to New York City may not please Kinsella's fans). Further, Duran strikes a tone in Can You Keep A Secret? that walks the line between genuinely sweet romance and the escapist fantasy of many romcoms. Bringing it all together are Daddario and Hoechlin in the lead roles, their chemistry elevating the movie. It may be a relatively typical romcom, but Can You Keep A Secret? nails what viewers want from the genre - equal parts humor and heart in a romance.

As such, Can You Keep A Secret? is perfect for fans of classic 80s and 90s romantic comedies who want slightly more modernized and authentic characters. Along with the recent romcom resurgence, films within the genre have pushed its boundaries, particularly in regards to representation. Can You Keep A Secret? doesn't strive to reinvent the genre, but nonetheless provides a fun and entertaining escapist fantasy for a little while. With a smaller budget and a grounded themes, Can You Keep A Secret? is also a more understated romance than typical Hollywood romcoms. Although Can You Keep A Secret? is perhaps too beholden at times to certain romcom tropes and follows a fairly standard formula, it's funny and sweet enough to keep viewers - to borrow a word from Jack - gripped.

Can You Keep A Secret?  is now playing in select U.S. theaters and is available to stream on Demand. It is 94 minutes long and is not yet rated.

Movie Review

Junior marketing assistant Emma Corrigan is a wreck. She can’t seem to hold down a job, she’s constantly fumbling over her words, and she has the confidence of a mouse.

After one bad sales pitch, Emma boards a plane home, expecting to hear the worst once she lands. But the worst comes sooner than that when the plane begins to experience frightening turbulence. Thinking she might die, Emma confesses her most embarrassing, personal secrets to the handsome stranger sitting next to her.

The next day, Emma shows up to work and learns that yesterday’s handsome stranger is actually the CEO of the company she works for. She’s horrified, of course. But Jack Harper isn’t put off by her unguarded vulnerability. Soon, they’re seeing each other.

After a few dates, Emma’s falling in love with Jack. But she soon realizes that while she’s been an open book, Jack’s life is still a closely guarded mystery.

Positive Elements

Emma slowly gains confidence as Jack affirms her and tells her she is worth loving. She also learns that relationships require vulnerability and trust.

Jack, for his part, is a kind man who genuinely wants to make his company a better place. He gives Emma confidence in herself and makes it clear that he tries to be selfless.

Emma’s roommate, Lissy, is thoughtful and selfless, always encouraging Emma and providing a listening ear when it’s needed. Casey, one of Emma’s closest male friends, gives sound advice and defends Emma.

Spiritual Elements

Emma reads her and Jack’s daily horoscope. Emma says, “The world works in mysterious ways.”

Sexual Content

Emma and her boyfriend early in the film, Connor, lie in bed together, fully clothed. Later, Connor walks around his apartment without pants (we see his fully exposed rear), and Emma stares at his genitals (visible to her, not the camera). Elsewhere, she tries to have sex with Connor at work. (We again see his unclothed rear, while Emma’s in a revealing tank top and skirt.)

Emma is trapped on a plane with Jack and begins to share intimate details about her personal life during a turbulence scare, such as how her current boyfriend isn’t performing sexually (We see a flashback to a scene suggesting that he’s performing oral sex on her.) Emma also makes some crude comments comparing male and female genitals. She also admits to having a lesbian sex dream.

Emma and Jack kiss, make out and eventually end up back at his place. Clothes are removed. (We see him shirtless and she from the bare shoudlers up). They lie in bed together, presumably after sex. Emma believes that Jack is the kind of guy who has had multiple sexual partners (which he doesn’t deny) and could get any woman he wants.

One of Emma’s roomates, Gemma, wears extremely revealing clothes. All of her outfits reveal cleavage and some part of her body, such as her thighs or stomach. One see-through body suit shows Gemma’s rear. Another roomate of Emma’s, Lissy, appears to be sleeping with a coworker when in reality they’re just practicing a dance routine in her bedroom. (Several scenes are intentionally misleading and suggest the two are intimately involved.)

A man leers at the backsides of both men and women. A poster shows an elderly man lounging on the beach in swimtrunks. A gay flight attendendant flirts with Jack, as do a few other men. Cybill, Emma’s supervisor, is a transgender woman.

Men and women make crude references to sex. A man references his genitals and his performance in the bedroom. A couple has a graphic conversation about oral sex. A man jokes about being a eunuch and losing his virginity.

Violent Content

Emma thinks she’s going to die while experiencing severe turbulence (other passengers scream). Jack talks about a friend who tragically died.

Crude or Profane Language

The f-word is heard five times, and the s-word is used nearly 10. times. God’s name is misused more than 10 times, once paired with “d–n,” while Jesus’ name is abused twice. Other profanity includes one or two utterances each of “h—,” “b–ch” and “dips—.” Emma refers to a certain male name as “douchey.”

Drug and Alcohol Content

After Emma ruins a sales pitch, one of her supervisors asks if she forgot to take her “meds.” Men and women consume wine, beer and champagne.

Other Negative Elements

Emma’s work environment is wholly unprofessional. Her CEO, Jack, asks her inappropriate questions about her love life while at work. Jack shares Emma’s personal details on live TV, and her coworkers ridicule her.

Emma is extremely insecure. She has a hard time loving herself and having confidence because she doesn’t believe she deserves love. Emma gets frustrated during a sales pitch and accidentally spills a beverage on a client.

Gemma, Emma’s roommate, openly insults both Emma and Lissy’s physical appearance. Gemma also tries to convince Emma to get revenge on those who have hurt her, to lie in relationships and to never be vulnerable with men.

Can You Keep A Secret? is a novel by Sophie Kinsella, author of the popular Shopaholic series, that focuses on one woman’s secrets laid bare in front of a complete stranger. Or so she thinks. But not all secrets are worth revealing—at least that’s what I wished someone would have learned in this film.

Don’t get me wrong: Vulnerability can be a wonderful thing in the right relational context. And if you’re going to make a relationship last, you have to be willing to open up. But many characters in this movie were far more open than they needed to be, from start to finish, given the lack of safeguards for such emotional intimacy here.

This streaming Amazon Prime original is an odd combination of plot holes, awkward characters and really unsavory content. Despite its almost Hallmark-y romcom setup, this movie lands solidly in R-rated territory (even though it’s officially unrated) due to its harsh profanity and its frequently explicit sexual content (both visual and verbal).

In fact, I’d say this is one of those romantic comedies that would do well to get to know itself better before oversharing quite so much with a viewing audience it’s never met before.

Can You Keep a Secret?

Romcom retread

A neurotic young woman on an airliner encountering turbulence is convinced they are going to crash and spills all her most personal secrets to the hunky stranger sitting next to her. Later, after the plane lands safely, she is chagrined to find that – Oh. My. Gawd! – the aforementioned hunk is the CEO of the company she just joined.

Now, I realize that fans of romantic comedies are perfectly happy with the genre’s tried and true formula: meet cute, fall in love, deal with some manufactured conflict and then live sappily ever after. They’re not looking for originality. But geez Louise, this lazy adaptation by reality show director Elise Duran of a reputedly best selling novel by Sophie Kinsella doesn’t even try .

Alexandria Doddario plays the gormless female lead without charm or subtlety. But hers is Oscar-level work compared to her fashionably bestubbled costar Tyler Hoechlin, who brings to the role all the depth of a contestant rejected by The Bachelorette for being too vacuous.  If you went wading in the plot, you wouldn’t get your toenails wet.

It’s the kind of movie you keep watching just to see if it can get any worse. Spoiler: It does. (94 min)

Our first look at Seven Kings Must Die, Netflix’s Last Kingdom movie

Andy Meek

A final farewell to The Last Kingdom

Seven Kings Must Die on Netflix

We’ve got our first look at the movie from Netflix below — which, if nothing else, reaffirms for me that this period drama based on the historical novel series Saxon Stories by Bernard Cornwell will actually go down as one of the best Netflix franchises of all time.

For proof, which also perhaps helps explain why the streamer felt that a wrap-up movie is in order, consider these Rotten Tomatoes audience scores for The Last Kingdom (which clearly shows fan interest in the series never seriously dipping in any worrisome way across its five seasons).

Of course, we all know the drill by now: There’s always a set of private and super-important Netflix data that the streamer keeps close to the vest, helping it to determine when to keep investing in a show and when a particular show has gone on long enough. To its credit, this Netflix original got more seasons than most. Viewership also clearly doesn’t seem to have been a problem, as The Last Kingdom tended to perform well on Netflix’s global Top 10 chart and in the in-app US-centric ranking.

Nevertheless, here we are. Returning once more to the England of the 9th and 10th centuries, and to a series that never took its fans for granted and certainly never ran off its star like a certain other Netflix franchise (*cough* The Witcher *cough*).

Netflix movie Seven Kings Must Die first images

Below, you’ll find the official synopsis of The Last Kingdom’s Netflix movie, which is coming on April 14 :

Alexander Dreymon reprises his lead role as the great warrior Uhtred of Bebbanburg, who must ride once more across a fractured kingdom with several of the series’ much-loved returning characters, as they battle alongside, and against, new allies and enemies. Following the death of King Edward, a battle for the crown ensues, as rival heirs and invaders compete for power. And when an alliance comes seeking Uhtred’s help in their plans, Uhtred faces a choice between those he cares for most, and the dream of forming a united England.

  1. Can You Keep a Secret? movie review (2019)

"Can You Keep a Secret?" doesn't elicit warm laughs so much as heavy sighs, even though the film has some zippiness—there's a slapstick spirit to the movie that doesn't shine because the jokes are plain, the couple is tough to root for, and the general tension behind this weird situation is on the lazier side of rom-com premises.
